• If you have been neglecting your Kevins lately, here's your chance to right a wrong. National Kevin Day aka National Hug-a-Kevin Day (not to be confused with Kevin Day, a British comedian) takes place on October 3, 10 or April 20, depending on how much traffic social media users generate for either day. October 10 is the most recognized but really we don't mind having 3 dates to let our Kevins know they are special & amazing beings! Hug on! (Yes, this is a fairly crazy day to research and follow but we're doing our best to make sense out of it.) Bottom line, grab a Kevin (with permission, of course) and give a hug!
• While the actual "holiday" was started moreso as promotional gimick, the celebrations of all Kevins on these days has steadily increased since its inception.
• October 3 is also recognized as National Boyfriend Day (so if you have a Kevin as a boyfriend, time to make that hug extra-special!).
• National Hug a Kevin Day began in 2017 as a promtional tactic for a television program. The title character Kevin Finn, portrayed by Jason Ritter, broke the Guinness World Record for the most hugs given in one minute throughout the course of the one-season run of 'Kevin (Probably) Saves the World'.
• The first Kevin we can find on record is Saint Kevin in 6th century Ireland. He sounds like quite the chap, having founded Glendalough Abbey in the Kingdom of Leinster. He is one of the patron saints of the Archdiocese of Dublin.
• Things got pretty quiet on the Kevin front from then up until the 20th century, when Kevin became a very popular name, particularly in the 1950s. Many attribute the name's rise in popularity to the actor Kevin McCarthy who shot to fame for his role in Death of a Salesman in 1951.
• For Kevins in the U.S things reached a peak in the 1960s. Sadly it has been on a steady decline ever since, with Kevin dropping out of the top 100 most popular names way back in the 1990s. Sad.

The butterfly you see here was special to an amazing Kevin. #NotAllKevins are amazing in the same way. He was one of the special ones. While most of us know at least one Kevin, this site's creation was inspired by the desire to share the music, art, & love left behind by an amazing Kevin from Illinois. His passion for art & music was insatiable and his memory & attention to the tiniest details of a song, piece, or performance were hard to miss & admire. After his passing we became aware of National Kevin Day and the lack of an actual site. This site is dedicated to Kevin J. & all the Kevins we can't hug on this earth anymore.
